The OED is indispensable, and this first edition is more freely accessible than the current electronic edition -- this is especially important to those who do not have access to Windows or would like to browse the OED on a mobile device!

Unfortunately, volume 7 was scanned at too low a resolution to be legible. Thankfully, it's available elsewhere: http://www.archive.org/details/oed07arch

Volume 3 is also incomplete, ending at "dissever" (it entirely drops E). The complete D-E volume is available here: http://www.archive.org/details/oed03arch

Strangely, Mac OS X "Preview" doesn't render these PDFs correctly at their finest resolution. Use Adobe Reader.

See new submission of Dictionary. Instead of removing the previous submission I have edited a few volumes and added or replaced others; v2 letter C repaged; Google editions added as available, which is very incomplete; v7 letters O-P are split, but I cannot correct the scan, Google's part 2 is added. Others may do better to yield a better set. I disccovered that due to the irregular serial published parts, and the different publishers, the work is scattered all over, neither Google nor Microsoft has given a proper set or edition of the whole. It is regreted that the Oxford Universal Dictionary on Historical Principles prepared by Little, Fowler, and Coulson, and revised and edited by Onions, published in 1933 on, is not yet public domain, since Oxford's Shorter English Dictionary is a better or fuller abridgment of the big set as collected here, perhaps Oxford might grace the public with an early release of the OUDHP. Thanks to c.w.for his observation and link. mjm, 2011. set 0702,2011.
